Dr. K Siddappa was born in an agricultural family of Kaginelli, a small village in Shikaripura taluk, Shimoga district. His spouse Mrs. Manjula Siddappa is a homemaker. He completed his primary and secondary education from the village Kaginelli and higher secondary education from Nyamathi, Shimoga district. In the year 1955, he went to Bengaluru to do his LMP from Medical School. In the year 1958, he took MBBS degree from R G Kar Medical College, Calcutta. He then did his DVD from Grant Medical College, Mumbai, in 1961. In the year 1965, he obtained MD degree from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Later, in the year 1974, he had his SDS training at National Institute of Health, Tokyo, Japan.
He served as an assistant surgeon in the Department of Health and Family Welfare Services from 1958 to 1962. He has also served as an assistant professor in the Department of Skin and VD at Medical College, Mysuru, and Karnataka Medical College, Hubballi, from 1962 to 1969. In the year 1969, he joined the J.J.M Medical College, Davangere, as an associate professor and head of the department and served long innings as a professor and head of the department from 1975 to 1993. Later, he worked as Professor Emeritus at J.J.M Medical College.
He was National Secretary and President of IADVL. He was the brain behind IADVL - Textbook of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy and he was the Project Director. He has contributed to chapters on skin and systemic diseases, syphilis, nonvenereal treponematoses, and lymphogranuloma venereum in all the editions up to the 4th. This book stands out as a proud book as it involved multiple authors all over India, and most importantly, it was the Indian material in all chapters of the book. He was an editorial member of what is new in dermatology, venereology, and leprosy? published quarterly by Fulford (India) Limited, Mumbai. He has also Publications in National Journals. He has contributed to chapters on systemic antibiotics and systemic antifungals in update in dermatology.
He was known as one of the dedicated, devoted, and disciplined teachers and he is much remembered for this by his students and members of the dermatology fraternity. He happens to be one of the most senior dermatologists of India. He was very regularly attending all the conferences, wherein he has delivered good number of lectures. All along his life, he had the zeal to teach and zeal to learn. He used to appreciate and encourage the students in the process of learning the subject in a very disciplined and coolest temperament.
